What is Santarchy?
Once a year the jolly people of the greater Orlando area dress up in cheap Santa suits (or their best holiday gear) for a celebration of holiday cheer, goodwill, and fun. There is no good reason to dress up in Santa suits, run around town, give gifts, and sing songs but it's a lot of fun -- so we do it anyway. Better watch out Santas are coming to town!
Santarchy "is a mass gathering of people dressed in Santa Claus costumes parading publicly on streets and in bars in cities around the world. The focus is on spontaneity and creativity, while having a good time and spreading cheer and goodwill.” (from Wikipedia)
History:
Santarchy takes place in major cities all over the world involving tens of thousands of Santas. It is a non-profit, non-political, non-religious & nonsensical celebration of holiday cheer, goodwill, and fun. Get more info on the history and other locations here: http://www.santarchy.com.
Santa sings, gives gifts, tells jokes, and marches around downtown Orlando until the sun comes up!
